A Holiday in Ylläs

A Dream Holiday in Ylläs
It had been quite some time since my last holiday in Ylläs, having last visited in 1990 for a skiing trip. Ylläs offers unforgettable moments for both those seeking the peace of nature and active adventurers. This blog post reveals why a holiday in Ylläs is worth it.
Ylläs – A Unique Combination of Nature and Activities
Ylläs is located deep in the heart of Lapland, from a Southern Finland perspective, offering visitors access to pristine nature. Its landscapes are breathtakingly beautiful year-round, from snow-covered winters to summer evenings gilded by the midnight sun. Ylläs offers calming nature trails, majestic mountain landscapes, and adrenaline-boosting ski slopes.
The Magic of Winter in the Mountains
During the winter season at Finland's highest ski resort, you can experience the magic of Lapland by snowshoeing, on husky and reindeer safaris, or skiing on Finland's longest slopes. Ylläs Mountain has an impressive height of 719 meters, and you can ski down slopes as long as 3 kilometers. Nearly half of Ylläs's 62 slopes are at least a kilometer long.
North of Ylläs Mountain lies the Äkäslompolo slope area, and to the south, the Ylläsjärvi slope area, allowing you to visit both villages in the same day by skiing.

The Beauty of Summer in Lapland
Summer brings along lift-assisted mountain biking and opportunities for hiking and mountain biking. Summer activities also include kayaking, disc golf, and fishing.
You can also enjoy the midnight sun of Lapland, as the sun doesn't set at all here during June and July.
Sauna Experiences with Stunning Views
I, like many other Finns, am passionate about sauna. Ylläs is a fun place where you can have a memorable sauna experience in the world's only gondola sauna. If you're addicted to ice swimming or want to try it for the first time, it's possible, for example, at Rönölä in Lake Luosujärvi.

Taste Experiences in the Mountain
Both of Ylläs's charming mountain villages offer a comprehensive selection of restaurants, both in summer and winter. The offerings range from reindeer dishes to pizzas enhanced with local ingredients, not to mention five-course gourmet dinners.
Where to Stay in Ylläs?
There are accommodations for every need and budget, from hostels to luxury log cabins. Conveniently located at the treeline of Ylläs Mountain is the Spa Hotel Lapland Hotels Saaga, which offers easy access to the slopes. You can get on the gondola lift by skiing. It's wonderful to relax in the atmospheric pool area with hot tubs and steam saunas after a great day on the slopes.
The nightlife is not as lively and boisterous as at the "neighboring" ski resort Levi, but it's still accessible since it's only about an hour's drive from Ylläs.
Lapland Tango
Ylläs stands out from other tourist centers because it is Finland's largest and, in my opinion, the best tourist center. Whether it's the charm of winter with its Northern Lights or the magic of the midnight sun in summer, a holiday in Ylläs offers something for everyone. For me, there's always a longing for Lapland, especially for the beautiful landscapes of Ylläs. I can relate to the beautiful text of the Lapland Tango written by Maj-Lis Könönen: "The lure of Lapland creates strange magic, it is beautiful and incomparable".
