 The moment I stepped off the plane, I was greeted by a warm breeze and a sky so blue it seemed to merge with the ocean at the horizon. Sal, which means 'salt' in Portuguese, is renowned for its salt mines, and its history as a salt exporter is just as rich as its natural beauty.

The Surreal Salt Pans

 One of the most surreal experiences on the island is visiting the salt pans of Pedra de Lume. Nestled inside an extinct volcano crater, these salt pans are not only a significant part of Sal's history but also a sight to behold. Floating in these salt-rich waters, I felt as if I was defying gravity – a sensation both bizarre and exhilarating. I had similar experience in The Dead Sea, Israel.

 The town of Santa Maria is the heartbeat of Sal and it's touristic destination. Its cobbled streets, painted in bright colors, lead you to a bustling pier where local fishermen haul in their daily catch. The town's energy is infectious, and the blend of African and Portuguese influences is evident in everything from the music that fills the streets to the delectable cuisine.

 The beaches of Sal are, without a doubt, some of the most beautiful I've seen. Azure waters, golden sands, and the perfect wind conditions make it a haven for water sports enthusiasts. Whether it's windsurfing, kitesurfing, or just basking in the sun, Sal's beaches offer a perfect escape.

A Cultural Melting Pot

 Sal's true beauty lies in its people. The island is a melting pot of cultures, and this diversity is celebrated. Whether it's through their music, their art, or their welcoming smiles, the people of Sal are the soul of the island.
